3. Writing the Letter:

  • Conciseness & Clarity: Ensure the letter is concise and the information is clearly presented.

  • Genre & Style: Follow the appropriate professional tone and style for the type of letter you are writing.

  • Organization & Layout: Organize the letter logically, typically including an introduction, body, and conclusion.

  • Language: Use correct grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure.

TYPES OF LETTERS

  • Referral Letter: When referring a patient to another healthcare professional.

  • Discharge Letter: When discharging a patient from care and providing a summary of their treatment and follow-up needs.

  • Transfer Letter: When transferring a patient to another facility or department.

  • Other Professional Correspondence: Any other professional communication relevant to the healthcare context.

TIPS FOR PREPARATION

  • Practice Writing: Regularly practice writing different types of letters using sample case notes.

  • Review Sample Letters: Analyze high-scoring sample letters to understand what is expected.
